Urban Single Parents

Justyna Mielnikiewicz

Single parenthood is on the rise everywhere in the world, including the EU. Single parents now constitute about 19% of the households with children in the EU.
Majority of those are headed by women but more and more men are eager to undertake the responsibilities of single parenthood.
While some of those families are affected by poverty and social exclusion, my story focuses rather on a specific group : urban single parents who are educated, eager to develop their careers.
They choose single parenthood ( ex. in-vitro , now illegal in Poland ) or end up being on their own facing all the challenges it brings.
My story is about their daily lives, from the complicated choices and repetitive struggles they are willing to face to be with their children, to the simple commitment and love they have for their kids.
